WHAT IS THE THRIVE APPROACH?
The Thrive approach has been shown to develop children’s capacity to regulate emotion and develop a strong sense of self-worth. Importantly, these skills will support a child’s growing capacity to make sense of the world, to be able to think about feelings and to make choices about their behaviour; all essential skills for learning. We believe that this approach has much to offer our children and our already inclusive caring school.
Our Thrive practitioners, Mrs Stevens, Mrs Price and Mrs Bentley, have undergone extensive training to ensure that they are fully equipped to work with children and the staff team, to deliver effective strategies and activities which support the development of each unique child.
Thrive is used with individual children, small groups and whole classes. For individual children we work hand in hand with them and their parents to complete assessments which lead to exciting activity programmes. The emphasis is on providing positive, descriptive feedback to children. Activities are based on the arts, unleashing children’s creative talents. We use puppets, sand trays, feathers, mirrors and raw materials that enable children to creatively express their thoughts, emotions and sensations. Adopting a caring attitude is key to success. By working in this extremely focused way, with individual children, we can really make a difference to their social and emotional resilience.
