Windhill21 Physical Education Vision:

For all children to leave Windhill21 Primary School with the skills, confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm for a lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Physical activity is at the core of our values at Windhill21. Physical literacy is promoted throughout our PE lessons, active playtimes and lunchtimes, extra-curricular clubs and beyond the school gates.

Within our exciting curriculum, there is progression from Nursery to Year 6 in: Invasion games, Net and wall games, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Gymnastics, Athletics and Dance.

Pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 take part in swimming lessons for one of their PE lessons each week for six sessions. The sessions are delivered by qualified instructors at Bishop’s Stortford College Swimming Pool.

We passionately believe that competitive sport and ‘opportunities for ALL’ can co-exist in a busy school environment and we are proud of the opportunities we offer all of our pupils. As part of the local School Sports Partnership, all children are offered opportunities for both participation and competitive sporting environments.

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year. 

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. Platinum is the highest award achievable and is only given to a few schools who meet the criteria. 

A few of our sporting achievements this year include:

• Increasing our 60 active minutes for every child through the OPAL scheme as well as ensuring there are opportunities throughout the day,
• Offering extra-curricular activities for all,
• Promoting Physical Literacy across our school,
• Gaining feedback through pupil voice, pupil forum as well as our Sports Captains to promote sport and physical activity,
• Providing opportunities for all pupils to participate in intra and inter-school competitions.
