Windhill21 Curriculum

At Windhill21, we are proud of our curriculum. The content is based on the National Curriculum, however, through rigorous planning with cornerstones rooted in pedagogy, and a scheme of continuous improvement, adaptations are made to personalise this to our setting. Through this approach, we ensure our curriculum offering is: progressive, skills-based, knowledge-rich, inclusive, ambitious for all, broad and balanced – whilst also being exciting, enticing and engaging for all children.

Our whole school ethos, including our curriculum, is underpinned by our school drivers. These are threaded through all we teach at Windhill21, and, we believe, ensure our children are well-prepared for the next step in their education journey. These drivers are: Confident Communicators, Knowledgeable Learners, and Global Citizens. With these drivers forging our curriculum forward, we are capable of “Empowering Young Children to Take on the World.”

When refining our curriculum, we seek to continuously improve what we teach by considering our current cohort with care; this allows us both to celebrate what makes us unique and address any barriers to learning as a staff.

We believe that our curriculum also provides children with a rounded experience that equips them to become citizens of an ever-changing world.

Our Windhill21 pillars guide our children at every stage of their journey by exemplifying the characteristics needed for life-long learning, and our growth-mindset approach allows for motivated, engaged, and self-regulated learners. We are a Voice21 school, providing all children the opportunity to transform their learning through the power of oracy.

British Values and the UN Global Goals are interwoven throughout our curriculum, and explicitly taught in World View lessons and in our weekly assemblies. As a result, Windhill21 children are empowered to speak up on issues they feel passionately about, and have a clear understanding of the world they live in.

Whilst we celebrate our academic excellence, we do not narrow our curriculum to safeguard this. Windhill21 believes each and every subject of the primary curriculum is of importance, and by teaching all subjects with the same outstanding approach, we give each child the opportunity to find their passion and shine.

Our world-class curriculum and approach to learning, combined with our range of extra-curriculum clubs, guarantees that not only do our children thrive at Windhill21 – they also journey through their education with confidence, knowledge, skills and an awareness and appreciation for the world they live in.
